Packing & Inventorying
How your belongings are packed can determine the safety of your goods during transit. Your Government Agency provides your belongings to be professionally .
Before the
Packers arrive
-
Remove all
breakables from closets and drawers.
-
Detach any items
that are attached to your residence, e.g. washers, dryers, electronic
components, etc.
-
Disassemble any
items that do not fit out of the residence as is.
-
Remove all
contents from your crawl space or attic unless there is a permanent stair
case, flooring, and we are able to stand up.
-
Please separate
anything you are planning on taking with you from the rest of your
belongings ahead of time to ensure that they do not get packed.
-
If you are
having an additional delivery at your destination city, please make sure
those items are separated and clearly marked so they can be properly
inventoried. Your Government agency will not pay for us to go through the
items afterwards because your items were not clearly separated; it will be
at your expense.
-
Make sure to
separate your Professional, Books, & Equipment (PB&E) from your household
goods because they need to be separately packed and inventoried so they do
not count against your weight entitlement.
-
Complete
household chores (i.e. laundry, dishes, trash removal) before the crew
arrives.
Please secure the
following items in an area away from what the movers will be packing. You
should transport these items yourself:
-
Money, coin
collections
-
Gems/jewelry
-
Stamps
-
Purse/wallet
The Packing
-
Your Planes
Relocation Counselor will give you a window of time for the arrival of
your packing crew the day before.
-
The crew will
bring all of the necessary equipment to safely pack all items that need to
be transported in boxes.
-
The number and
types of cartons needed are determined during the pre-move survey and
through information our counselor receives from you.
-
Each box will be
marked to indicate the room the items were in (i.e. MBR – Master Bedroom)
along with the general contents inside (i.e. Dishes/Glassware).
Inventorying
Your Belongings
-
Once the packing
is complete, the crew leader will prepare an inventory list.
-
It is your
responsibility to go along with the crew leader to make sure each box has
a sticker on it and is placed on the inventory form.
-
The crew leader
will notate on the inventory form the size of the box and a general
description of the contents.
-
Please be sure
PB&E is clearly noted on both the boxes and the inventory forms.
-
If you are
having an additional delivery at your destination city, please make sure
those boxes are packed and inventoried separately.
-
Before signing
the inventory, make sure all items are listed.
-
Your signature
indicates you have agreed upon the items taken, and their condition, as
listed.
