If Your Belongings Go
To Storage
When the move out
date and the move in date don’t line up with the potential delivery date,
storage might be the answer. The government automatically authorizes your
belongings to be stored at a van line warehouse up to 60/90 days.
Things to
consider if you’re storing your belongings
-
As stated above
your Government agency authorizes storage up to 60/90 days.
-
o If you need to remain in storage beyond the initial 60/90 days, it is your responsibility to contact your agency to see if they will extend your storage time. They could extend your time another 30, 60 or 90 days but it will be no more than a total of 150/180 days.
-
If you still
need to remain in storage beyond your authorized time, the cost of storage
will be at your expense.
-
Your Government
agency will not authorize storage at an air-conditioned storage facility.
-
There is an
extra charge to access your goods if stored in a van line warehouse so
plan accordingly. This extra charge will be at your expense.
-
Notify your
Planes Counselor 2 weeks in advance of requested delivery out of storage.
Preparing for
your goods to be stored
-
Appliances must
be clean; any moisture or dried on foods may cause mold, which would not
be covered under the transit policy.
-
Nothing
perishable can be stored – including plants.
-
Do not store
jewelry, personal/original documents, records that you may need during the
storage period (tax, medical, school records).
